Ebonite (vulcanised rubber), besides being a perfect thermal insulator, is particularly resistant to the action of chemicals. In semi-finished form (slabs and rounds), it is used for the manufacture of technical articles such as mouthpieces for musical instruments, as well as pipes, bodies and nib-points for fountain pens and, even today, for high-quality combs.
