HOW A COLLOID MILL WORKS

The principle of the colloidal mill is based on the rotor/stator system. In the stator, tailor-made for the product to be machined with specific teeth (e.g. linear or crossed), a rotor is coupled with a similar symmetrical teeth. The result of the different taper of the two surfaces creates a gap (air gap) which becomes increasingly narrower, as well as the reduction in size of the dentition, producing a grade increasingly greater micronization of the product during the passage.

The operating principle of the colloidal mill allows to obtain a final grain size of the very controlled product compared to other types of mills. The colloidal mill works with semi-liquid/pasty and never dry products (no powders), with a initial grain size up to several mm, to obtain a minimum final grain size at the output approximately in a range between 50um and 100um, depending on the product treated. Colloidal mills are available in different standard sizes with flow rates between 500 and 80,000 l/h at depending on the configuration of the machinery and the viscosity of the product. Three different families of mills are available:

O (verticale) https://mohwinckel.it/prodotto/mulini-colloidali-tipo-o/ E (orizzontale) https://mohwinckel.it/prodotto/mulini-colloidali-tipo-e/ EL (orizzontale, in linea) https://mohwinckel.it/prodotto/mulini-colloidali-tipo-el/

The different families group mills of different production capacity specified according to the viscosity of the product to be treated

In some cases, as for oily dried fruit, it is possible to introduce whole fruits, which come pre-shredded thanks to the special shape of the rotor, before entering the air gap and becoming a homogeneous paste. If necessary, at the end of the process, mills with different ones can be adopted operating principle, capable of obtaining smaller grain sizes, such as ball mills.

Processes

♦ deagglomeration

♦ dispersion

♦ emulsion

♦ micronization

♦ homogenization

♦ dissolution

♦ mixing

♦ wet grinding

Application sectors:

♦ Food (baby food, vegetable purées, sauces, pesto, spreads, vegetable drinks, jams, etc.)

♦ Petrochemical (refining lubricants, paraffins, bitumen)

♦ Pharmaceutical (creams, gels, ointments, etc.)

♦ Cosmetics (shampoos, soaps, creams, cocoa butter, lotions, toothpastes, make-up products, etc.)

♦ Chemistry (pesticides, pigment dissolution, oil emulsification, etc.)

♦ Waste treatment (particulate reduction)

Motor

PUC colloidal mills are powered by special three-phase motors. The engines are surface-cooled, they have moisture protective insulation (IP55) and are suitable for use with inverters. They can be supplied for all voltages, frequencies and protection classes. As a standard feature, our engines they have the IE3 efficiency class. Materials For processing particularly abrasive products and for parts subject to stress (rotor/stator) it is a special high-strength hardened chrome steel is used

Seals

All units are available with various single- and double-acting mechanical seals and with seals lip (PTFE) in accordance with FDA requirements, easy to replace.

Mohwinckel S.r.l. is the official distributor in Italy of PUC colloidal mills made by the German PROBST & CLASS. The technical and commercial staff of Mohwinckel S.r.l. can provide any type of information, assistance and guidance for use by anyone interested in implementing them in their production process.

Products from ISOCOS GmbH

prodotti ISOCOS GmbH

The CosTherm product family produced by the German company ISOCOS GmbH & Co. KG offers a wide range of materials suitable for use in the thermal insulation of presses, moulds and industrial machinery. Application areas are: Plastics, Wood, Rubber, Aluminium die-casting

CosTherm insulation boards, composed of thermosetting materials such as mica and calcium silicate, are characterised by: High temperature stability, Very low thermal conductivity, High load variations

It is possible to cut to pattern and apply PTFE coatings to increase the material’s resistance to chemicals.
